Scholarship Winner Update

2018 Freshman Scholarship Recipients

We experienced a record number of applicants and are thrilled that Anna
Carroll and Natalie Valko have each earned a $ 1,750 scholarship from the
Philly Buckeyes. These scholarships are funded through a combination of our
endowment fund, our annual membership dues and proceeds from our various game
watches.

Anna Carroll
Anna graduated from the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Bryn Mawr,
PA and resides in Phoenixville. Her accomplishments throughout her high
school
career are too numerous to list in their entirety but a few are below.
– National Latin Exam Winner (3 years)
– US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll
– Tres Bien Award for the highest class GPA (Junior year)
– National Honor Society

Anna plans to major in Food Science and Technology with a minor in Nutrition.
Her aspiration is to develop food which is medicine, aligned with people’s
personalized nutritional needs. She was drawn to The Ohio State University by
the range of courses and research opportunities in her chosen course of
study.
Her visit to Columbus gave her an appreciation of the “University’s
mid-Western friendliness along with it diversity”. We are thrilled that Anna
chose to be a Buckeye!!

Natalie Valko
Natalie lives in Chalfont, PA and graduated from Central Bucks West High
School.
As with Anna, Natalie’s accomplishments are too numerous to list but here
are a few of them:
– AP Scholar with Honor Award
– National Honor Society
– National Center for Women in Technology Certificate of Distinction for
– Aspirations in Computing
– Tohickon Academic Excellence Award
– Member of a pre-professional ballet company

Natalie has been dancing for 13 years and is currently training with the
Metropolitan Ballet Company. She has performed numerous pieces including,
“The Nutcracker,” “Cinderella,” “Don Quixote,” and “Midsummer Night’s Dream”. At
Ohio State, Natalie plans to major in Computer Engineering and intends to
create electronic devices that will improve people’s lives and make tasks
easier to complete. She is driven to find the intersection between two
unrelated ares: ballet and computer engineering. Ohio State’s dance
department has joined with the Computer Science/Engineering department to create the
Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design which opened Natalie’s eyes
to the infinite opportunities that Ohio State has to offer.

Anna and Natalie are two of the shining stars from the Philadelphia area that
will be freshman from our area at Ohio State this fall and we wish them along
with the entire freshman class nothing but success as they experience all
that The Ohio State University has to offer.
